Prickly pear

We’d like to rid the Ravensthorpe Shire of this weedy menace.  Find out what you can do to help!

Prickly pear is a declared species that can form dense impenetrable patches that can harbour pest species such as foxes and rabbits and reduce land productivity.  Sharp spines on the plant can also cause injuries to humans and livestock.   Prickly pear fruit also plays host to fruit fly.

One of the key actions you can take to reduce the impact of this plant is to report any sightings.  Either contact DPIRD’s Pest and Disease Information Service on 9368 3080 or the Southern Biosecurity Group’s Executive Officer on 0484 932 447.
